We will not being going back. Very Very Very Disappointed.
Do not stay here. The website photos are very misleading. The condition of teepees and cabins is horrible and they are desperately in need of repair. Bathrooms made you feel even more disgusting after showering. The amount of money paid to stay here you would expect a lot more especially with it being on someone's property. Bedding was not clean, looked like they hadn't been washed in a while and sheets/blankets smelled bad, happy we brought our own. The owners are doing very little up keep and it shows everywhere you look. The grass is tall and not being mowed. The owners porch smells of dirty cat litter, they have about 8 cats living on the porch. The owners are not very welcoming or friendly. You don't see them at all. The gems hunt was a joke, kids said they dump the gems out in front of you. They do have animals but they are in a disgusting, falling down space that smells bad and not being cleaned. The highlight of diamond johns for my kids was seeing 2 free roaming roosters.
We stayed in a teepee this weekend and had a blast! The beds are very comfortable! It's a camping experience with a few extra amenities like a tv and mini fridge. They supplied us with diamond mining tools to use and at night had a gem hunting for our son, which he LOVED. Yes, the teepee wasn't spotless. But when your "camping" you expect an outdoor experience and that is exactly what we got. We would recommend it and will be visiting again.
We were only supposed to stay one night and the family was having such a great time we stayed a second night in the deluxe cabin which is fully furnished in and out, to give us time to see the Crater of Diamond State Park which is right around the corner, the owner and his family are very friendly and kind people, they assisted us with all the tools we needed to go diamond hunting, gave us extra towels to accommodate out large group, all the free wood for campfires for the firepit that's right at the bottom of the deck, the gas grill on the deck was right on time used it twice to cook out, tiki torches on the deck to light the night, we were very close to the river for swimming, canoeing and kayaking which the owner also has on the property to use everything is free to use except the canoe that is $20 rental. The kids go on a free gem hunt on the property every night which our kids loved! It was so peaceful out there. The sky looks like a planetarium at night, the stars were so close looked like you could touch them. I recommend disconnecting from city life and going here for a couple of days to a week and just enjoy nature and the country setting with family, friends and loved ones. I will definitely stay there again at Diamond Johns!
Filthy, Filthy, Filthy!!!! A real dump at best. Linens NOT clean or washed, furniture filthy, NO coffee cups, 3 forks, 4 plastic glasses 1 chair for a 6 person cabin(deluxe). This place needs to be shut down by the health department. We are avid animal lovers and nor prudish by any means, but the condition and filth at this place is appalling. I've half a notion to turn them in to the health department, but I'm not sure there is one within 100 miles! Stay as far away from this place as you can. This is no joke or exaggeration. How in the hell anyone can get away with renting such filthy, downtrodden facilities is totally beyond my comprehension. Perhaps an indicator of their horrid business model and practice is their 72 hour cancellation policy. Save yourselves, AVOID this latrine!!!!! You will see posts that attempt to justify staying there because the owners are so "nice." Well, don't believe it. The owners are WIERD!!! Behave like recluses, keep the door to the house closed behind them when they come to the door, seemingly to hide the filth behind them. Also there is no office. I find that one of the strangest things I have ever seen within the hospitality sector. God knows I can't say enough things about this place to encourage others NOT TO STAY HERE!!!!! It's absolutely HORRIBLE!!!!!
Exactly what we expected in campground, had a great time, location to diamond mine & town square & pet friendly. Clean property, nice owners, walking paths right on little Missouri river. Enjoyed the hot tub, dogs and kittens and roosters and peacocks and some ducks, very cute. Lots of things for kids to do, everyone nice & respectful. Very laid back country property, husband & I plan on going back.
